How to play Slapjack

A reaction game where the first player to slap a jack captures the center pile.

Players
2–8
Cards
52 cards
Time
10–25 minutes

Objective

Win all 52 cards.

Setup

  1. 1

Deal all cards face down as evenly as possible.

  2. 2

    Players hold packets without looking.

How play works

  1. 1

In turn, flip the top card away from yourself onto the center pile.

  2. 2

When a jack appears, everyone may slap. First valid slap takes the pile.

  3. 3

A false slap usually gives one card to the player who owns the pile.

Scoring and winning

  1. 1

There is no point score. The last player with cards wins.

  2. 2

A player with no cards may stay in until missing the next jack opportunity under common rules.

Rules to settle before play

  1. 1

Agree how ties and unsafe slaps are resolved.

  2. 2

Use a flat, clear surface and prohibit jewelry or forceful slapping.
